BOOK DOSSIER: EPHESIANS
Testament: NT | Chapters: 6 | Status: 17% DECLASSIFIED
Six chapters of the highest-altitude theology in the Pauline corpus — a letter that reads like a hymn wrapped in a briefing document. PAUL writes from prison and somehow produces the most expansive vision of the church in the New Testament. Chapters 1-3 are doctrinal: election before the foundation of the world, salvation by grace through faith, Jew and Gentile united in one body, the mystery of Christ revealed. Chapters 4-6 are operational: walk worthy, speak truth, submit to one another, put on the full armor of God. Ephesians describes the church as a body, a building, a bride, and a battalion. The view from prison turned out to be the view from heaven.
Scarlet Thread
Ephesians 2:4-5 — 'God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ.' Verse 1: the operatives are dead. Verse 5: reactivated. The delta between those two entries is pure grace — unearned, unauthorized by the recipients, executed by sovereign initiative. Dead assets don't file their own rescue requests.
